Registration Ethio Skills’ 99 : Promoting Excellence Through Competition

 

For the first time in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa will host Ethio Skills’99, the Ethiopian model skills competition based upon the World Skills Competition.

Public registration for this exceptional event will begin with a Press Conference at the Addis Ababa Education Bureau on the 5th of October, 2006 at 3pm.

The Ethio Skills’99 competition is a unique opportunity for young trainees in technical and vocational education (TVET) to compete before the public and show their skills in IT, bricklaying, dress making, cooking, beautification and carpentry. The trainees will test themselves against demanding international standards. The main objective of the event is to promote skills among trainees and strengthen their practical knowledge and so development of industries as well as the economy.

Ethio Skills’99 gives Ethiopia the chance to show how the students of today will become the professionals of tomorrow, meeting all the requirements for the World Skills Competition, which is held every two years and where young TVET students from all over the world compete according to the same standards.

Ethio Skill’s contestants will be selected by the TVET authorities in their respective regions (Addis Ababa, Amhara, Dire Dawa, Southern, Tigray and Oromia).

Ethio Skill’s 99 is a pioneering competition currently powered by the Engineering Capacity Building Program (ecbp) and managed by the Addis Ababa City Government Education Bureau.

 

The head of Education Bureau, Hagos Hailu, the deputy TVET coordinator, Abeba Hagos and the ecbp TVET coordinators, Genet Meseret and Andreas Köenig, will present the competition and explain the registration process and conditions.

A reception will follow the official registration opening.
