The Ethiopian Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system is currently being reformed with the aim of creating a demand-driven and outcome based system. As part of its task to support the ongoing reform of TVET, the Ministry of Education (MOE) in collaboration with the Engineering the Capacity Building Program (ecbp) will launch the country’s second skills competition for TVET students under title ‘Millennium Ethio-Skills Competition’ (MESC).
The competition will be held in the regions, with the winners travelling to Addis Ababa where they will show their skills. The winners will be selected by a jury. The competition will be in six categories: metalwork, carpentry, masonry, engine mechanic, dressmaking, and plumbing.
On May 25, 2007 at the ecbp headquarters (Yewubdar Building Next to Alem cinema) there will be an official kick -off ceremony to lunch the MESC. On the occasion Ato Anbess Mamo, Deputy-Director of ecbp will announce the kick-off.
TVET is one of the four components of ecbp, an Ethiopian program working to improve competitiveness and promote employment. University reform, quality infrastructure and private sector development are the other areas that ecbp is working on.
