Lecture Series 2007

Lecture Series

Engineering Towards Development and Change

The lecture series Engineering Towards Development and Change tried to give answers to these and many other questions. The lectures at the Faculty of Technology of Addis Ababa University (FTO/AAU) library auditorium brought together engineering studies, as taught at the Faculty, with other studies like philosophy, history, or geography. Held twice a month from January to July 2007, the lectures tried to create a better picture of Ethiopia’s future path to industrialization. Internationally recognized experts attended the lectures to give their perspectives on Ethiopian development and discuss it with a wide public.

Stressing the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to science and a close relationship between science and practice, the lecture series was a great boost to academic teaching in Addis Ababa and Ethiopia. The Faculty of Technology of the Addis Ababa University once again proved to be a remarkably open forum for debate, establishing itself as the country’s leading institution for profound discussion on innovation.
