Skills Competition

ethioskills ’99

ethioskills ‘99 was a model skill competition organized by the Addis Ababa Education Bureau as a public private partnership project under and in cooperation with ecbp. The event, held in Addis Ababa in 2006, created awareness about Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) among the public and established the TVET skills competition in Ethiopia. It also intended to inspire trainees, training providers and employers to achieve excellence in vocational training through competition and to contribute to the social recognition of young, skilled, workers. One year after the great success of ethioskills ’99, the Millenium ethioSkills Competition was held in Addis Ababa in November 2007.

Activities

Young trainees from the TVET system competed in six different categories on 18th and 19th of November 2006.

As well as the competition, there was a display of selected innovative works by TVET students drawn from across the country and a technical and vocational exhibition, in which both private and public institutions took part.

On Monday the 21st of November 2006, the awards were given to the winners, and the students of the Ziway TVET School put on a fashion show, selling the designs after the show.

During this event, the ‘TVET Blue Pages’ were presented to the general public. The ‘TVET Blue Pages’ are a complete guide of all the TVET schools in the country, a comprehensive source of information for those interested in TVET opportunities.
