eLearning Kick-Off Powered by On.e
Ethiopia has made a dramatic step in its race towards improving its education system. “eLearning Kick-Off”, held from the 24th to 28th of July, 2006, in Addis Ababa, placed what will become the cornerstone for Ethiopia’s schools and universities.
Organized by on.e, “eLearning Kick-Off” consisted in:
- A three day application training where participants learned how to install a Knowledge Environment for Web-based Learning (KEWL) and Open Source eLearning platform.
- A two day strategic workshop where a project plan for eLearning in Ethiopia was finalized and collaborations with local and international partners were discussed in order to maximize efficiency.
Experts from Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Germany, Indonesia and the Philippines, amongst others, highlighted how this project can be made a reality for Ethiopian students. The participants explored how the huge academic potentials of ICT could be brought to Ethiopia.
Participants also learnt how to implement, run and maintain an operational Open Source eLearning platform, how to elaborate the content of different courses, how to produce that content and how to support those courses once they were created and in use. In short: the whole process of eLearning that Ethiopia is building.
