Seated at the conference from the left are Dr. Frank Ebinger, ecbp Quality Infrastructure Component Manager, H.E. Mr. Juneydi Sado, Minister of Science and Technology and H.E. Mr. Wondwossen Kiflu, State Minister of Education and ecbp Director.

An international workshop organized by ecbp together with the Ministries of Capacity Building and Science and Technology to review the green paper on National Science, Technology & Innovation (STI) Policy of Ethiopia was held in Adama from the 17th to 19th of March, 2010. The Policy proposal was built on a national system of innovation approach which benchmarked a study of 20 countries from Africa, Asia and Latin America which have achieved phenomenal economic growth. In the draft policy it was depicted that STI development will bring about the socio-economic development of the nation in the long run – if the system is established right away.

The workshop was attended by experts in the field from Ethiopia, Germany and Korea in order to obtain a broader perspective for the development of the policy paper. In order to strengthen the green paper and make it more comprehensive, participants reached a consensus to incorporate ideas and comments from various strategies of Ethiopia, including the Industrial, the Technical and Vocational Education and Training, and the National Quality Infrastructure. The role of Micro, Small and Medium enterprises in connecting their innovation endeavors was also recognized as important to the policy.
