Exhibition Promotes Micro and Small Enterprises
The Federal Micro and Small Enterprise Development Agency (FeMSEDA) in collaboration with the millennium business promotion organized a six day exhibition, displaying handicrafts items from all over the country.
“We organized this exhibition to promote small and micro enterprises in the country. We believe this exhibition will bring market for these enterprises and they will have a chance to exchange experiences and they will be able to create networks amongst themselves,” said Sisay Derbe head of public relations and communication of the agency. “This exhibition will also help individuals who are engaged in this sector to develop their skills and acquire knowledge from each other,” he added.
According to Sisay, this exhibition will be held every year during May and the agency is planning to invite foreign companies to participate in the upcoming exhibitions.
Over 100 micro and small enterprises from SNNPR, Tigray, Amahra, Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa took part in the exhibition that opened to the general public from May 23-28, 2009. Different products such as textiles, bamboo, metal, wood, carpet, pottery, and jewelry were on display. The exhibition was held at the premises of the FeMSEDA.
The Engineering Capacity Building Program (ecbp) was one of the major sponsors of this exhibition as part of its objective to support the development of the private sector through assisting small and micro enterprises.
Yared Fekade, Executive Program Officer at ecbp, commented that micro and small enterprises are of particular importance to the development of the private sector in Ethiopia as they are one of the first steps in the value chain of their particular industry.
